Islamic Student Societies of the Midlands (ISSM) is an organisation that has been growing from strength to strength over the last 5 years. Primarily, its role was to enhance the co-ordination between the numerous Islamic societies within the West Midlands. Through the natural process of trial, error and reflection it is very clear that the student body is capable of much more than just EVENTS, PARTIES and MORE EVENTS!! ISOC's are the representatives of Islam on their respective campuses! Maybe they have not met the challenge; however the potential of Muslims is greater at universities than in other institutions. Tapping into this talent and channeling it in a more positive manner is a greater task, and a task, which ISSM will endeavor to pursue.

In order to achieve this goal, it was deemed necessary that in order to prepare Islamic Socities better for the challenges of serving their communities, students must first be nurtured with Islamic and secular academia and interpersonal development prior to enrolling at university. This has led ISSM to re-direct it's efforts in nurturing the Islamic tarbiyah and interpersonal skills of Muslim schools and college students who express the qualities of becoming future leaders in the Muslim community, as well as continuing it's university outreach programmes.

What lays ahead are great challenges for Muslims in the British Education system in relation to man, Ihsan and Islam. In extreme cases this may lead to immoral acts such as illicit relations and drug abuse and more commonly a feeling of depression and helplessness. But with the help of Allah (swt), ISSM, along with other organisations can help provide a strong supplementary infrastructure for our younger siblings, equipping them to lead a yet unborn generation, promoting and preserving the values of Islam in it's most purified form.
